CALIFORNIA STATE ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 37: Statement Regarding the Hollister Ranch Homeowners Lawsuit to Challenge Assembly Bill 1680 and Coastline Access

Lawyer

California State Assembly District 37 recently issued the following announcement.

Assemblymember Monique Limón (D – Santa Barbara) issued the following statement regarding the Hollister Ranch Homeowners Lawsuit to Challenge Assembly Bill 1680 and Coastline Access.

“Regrettably, I am not surprised by the lawsuit regarding AB 1680. Access to the public beaches in this area have been litigated for almost four decades and it was time for someone accountable to the constituents of this area to bring stakeholders to the table to find a solution. I am confident the State will succeed in defending the right of all people to access and enjoy California beaches.

I introduced AB 1680 to lay the groundwork for developing meaningful, safe, equitable, and environmentally sustainable public access to the coast at Hollister Ranch. AB 1680 offers stakeholders the opportunity to work together to develop a contemporary access program that will culminate in initial access by April 1, 2022.

This bill reaffirms the constitutional commitment of our State to access public beaches.  AB 1680 provides clear goals, timeline and a structured process for everyone to achieve a collective solution.

The Hollister Ranch Association has and will continue to be part of the process established by the bill. I have visited the ranch and met with association leaders on several occasions and I am confident their concerns were not taken lightly.

The need for this bill is evidenced by the bipartisan support among California Legislators and support from our Attorney General, State Controller, Lieutenant Governor, the Coastal Commission, the Coastal Conservancy, the State Lands Commission, environmental and community groups across California and ending with the signature of our Governor.
