Victoria Care Center was recognized as Ventura County’s second largest nursing facility during the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The center offered 188 beds, which is 90 above the county’s average for that period, and provided care for an average of 179.8 residents.

The CMS awarded Victoria Care Center an overall rating of 5 out of 5, surpassing the statewide average of 3.2 for nursing homes in California.

Shoreline Care Center led as the largest Ventura County nursing home with 193 beds in the quarter, while Thousand Oaks Post Acute, LLC followed Victoria, providing 123 beds.

Victoria Care Center reported no instances of fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

Altogether, Ventura County had 17 for-profit nursing facilities in California during this time.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the nation’s older population is increasing as the younger demographic declines. From 2020 through 2024, Americans 65 and over rose by 13%, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the population of older adults has grown significantly, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A report published in 2021 estimated that almost half of this group—about 28 million people—may need long-term services and support, with projections showing over a third could ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
