The City of Ventura is pleased to announce the appointment of Brad “Brick” Conners as its Interim Assistant City Manager. Conners brings a wealth of executive leadership experience in diverse industries, including municipal government, military, and private sectors.

“Brick joins us after serving as the City Manager for the City of Port Hueneme and Chief Executive Officer for Naval Base Ventura County,” shared Mayor Joe Schroeder. “Conners is a decorated veteran, and his extensive background will be a tremendous asset to our team while we continue our recruitment efforts for a new City Manager.”

Conners served as the City Manager of Port Hueneme from February 2020 through February 2023 and held executive positions at various large organizations including Northrop Grumman Aerospace. He previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer at Naval Base Ventura County from October 2005 through April 2009 before serving in the United States Navy as an elite combat aviator with a distinction as a “Top Gun” pilot.    

Conners is a past president of the Ventura County Leadership Academy and has served as a board member of multiple organizations committed to public health, youth, innovation, technology, and environmental stewardship. He holds a Master of Business Administration from California Lutheran School of Management, a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from The College of Naval Warfare, and a Bachelor of Science in Operations Analysis from the United State Naval Academy.

Appointed by Interim City Manager Akbar Alikhan, Conners will support daily operations and manage highly complex administrative support for the City Manager’s Office and City Council members.

As the Interim Assistant City Manager, Conners will receive a monthly salary of $18,900.56.
