Alumni Spotlight Emily Jabourian graduated in 2021 with a biology major and a psychology minor. She is now a physician assistant (PA) at the USC Keck School of Medicine thanks to the help of her research with David Marcey, PhD in developmental biology and genetics.
Emily credits that experience and earning departmental honors with helping her stand out in her graduate program application. She said, “I'm very glad I completed my degree with the biology department at CLU because of the way faculty/staff focused on me as a student and did whatever they could to support me toward my dream career.”
As a biology departmental assistant, Emily improved her communication, professionalism, and interpersonal skills. Emily said that through her research, she learned key skills such as critical thinking, advanced writing, and being a great team member.
“All of my classes prepared me very well to thrive in PA school. My mentors within the biology department provided me with so much fundamental knowledge and taught the courses in a memorable way so that I am now successful in my program.”
Emily also said that she met the majority of her best friends from college thanks to the biology program at Cal Lutheran. Her final words of encouragement are to reach out and utilize the amazing resources that Cal Lutheran provides in order for you to learn as much as possible.
