“It takes two, baby...," said Marvin Gaye in 1967 when his duet with Kim Weston peaked in the Top 20 on the Billboard Pop Charts.
Both lectures will be stand alone for students who can attend only one lecture.
In the first lecture, we will look at musical duets from the 30s to the 50s. We will cover Les Paul and Bing Crosby's duet with Grace Kelly. We’ll transition to Rock & Roll and the 60s, from Mickey & Sylvia, to Sonny & Cher. Some of these artists/duos were incredibly successful, while others were one-hit-wonders.
In the second lecture, we will move from the 70s through the 90s with stops for Hall & Oates, Steely Dan, and Simon & Garfunkel. In addition, we’ll look at the artists of the second British invasion: The Eurythmics and more. Nashville will be represented from the Everly Bros to England Dan. We'll learn that sometimes two is better than one!
