Ventura Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on November 15.
Who are the families? Families served by the Adopt-A-Family program live locally in Ventura, Santa Paula, Filmore, Ojai, and Somis. They are living at or below the poverty level. Our caseworkers personally interview families: only 5% of families we serve are selected for the Adopt-A-Family program, those most in need of Christmas Assistance.
How Does Adopt-A-Family Work? Before the holidays, The Salvation Army interviews needy families who come seeking help. A caseworker develops a “wish list” with the family. An interested company, group or individual “adopts” the family and helps make some of those wishes come true. Food cards to purchase a holiday meal and new toys for each of the children are delivered to the Salvation Army Ventura Corps. We see that each family receives their packages before Christmas.
WHAT TO DO 1. Call the Salvation Army Ventura at 805-659-3598 or email laura.krolikowski@usw.salvationarmy.org
2. The Salvation Army will e-mail a “wish list” with information about the family, including the children’s ages. The identity of the family will be confidential.
3. Please give at least two new items(s) for each child age 0-12 years; a new item for each teen or adult member of the family is optional. No violent or scary toys. A family gift is also optional.
4. We also ask that you give a grocery gift card from a major grocery chain.
5. Place gifts in large plastic garbage bags and label them with the family code number and name. We can also provide the Angel Tag for the family. Please deliver gifts on December 13, 2021 between 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. to our Corps 650 S Petit Avenue: Ventura, CA 93004 7. Gifts should be unwrapped; however, including wrapping paper, gift bags, tape, tags, and trim is helpful to the families. Gift cards should be in a separate envelope, which will be logged in upon receipt. Limited pick-ups may be available in an emergency.
