Ventura Chamber of Commerce: Community Memorial Health System Earns National Recognition for Efforts to Improve Stroke Treatment

Qqq554

Ventura Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on September 8.

(Ventura, California) Community Memorial Health System has once again received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for a commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.

CMHS earned the Get with The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for another year by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluating the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines, with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients. Before discharge, patients should also receive education on managing their health, get a follow-up visit scheduled, and other care transition interventions.

“We are honored to be recognized by the American Heart Association for our dedication to helping our patients have the best possible chance of survival and after a stroke,” said Stephanie M. Lara, RN, MS-HCA, SCRN, and CMHS’s Stroke Program coordinator.

CMHS also received two other awards: the Target: Stroke Honor Roll – Elite Award, and the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, a national honor roll program for hospitals participating in the Get With The Guidelines program. These awards go to hospitals that meet high performance criteria with regard to the speed of treatment for stroke patients, and other healthcare measures.

Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States. On average, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, and nearly 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year. Early stroke detection and treatment are key to improving survival, minimizing disability, and speeding recovery times.

Get With The Guidelines-Stroke was developed to help healthcare professionals provide the most up-to-date, research-based guidelines for treating stroke patients.

Each year program participants apply for the award recognition by demonstrating how their organization has committed to providing quality care for stroke patients. In addition to following treatment guidelines, participants also provide education to patients to help them manage their health and rehabilitation once at home.

Community Memorial Health System is a not-for-profit health system that comprises Community Memorial Hospital, Ojai Valley Community Hospital, a skilled nursing facility, and several primary and specialty care clinics that serve communities throughout Ventura County, California.
